Clothes
4-8 Onesies
Onesie are essential for babies. I loved the Honest Organic Cotton Onesies for my baby.
4-8 Bottoms
Having a couple pair of shorts and long pants for my baby came in handy. I liked the Honest Brand a lot and many of the Target options.
Two Way Zipper Sleepers
A two way zipper is SO convenient for quick diaper changes. Especially those in the middle of the night. My favorite brand is Cloud Island. They are so soft and comfortable.
Night Gown Sleepers
My son slept in these little nightgowns from Carter’s for months after he was born. I loved them. I did have to put a small onesie on him though to keep his diaper on his bottom. He was a very small baby.
Sleep Swaddles and Sleep Sacks
I know these are controversial, but at the end of the day every family does what’s best for them. If this is something you don’t wish to use then you 100% don’t have to. If you choose to them these are the few brands I liked the most. The Burt’s Bees Sleep Sack was a favorite, along with the Nested Baby Zen Sack and Halo Sleep Sack.
No Scratch Mittens
If you have a bay who likes to scratch themselves or naturally has cold hands then baby mittens are a great investment.
Drool Bibs
When my baby got to be a couple few months old he became a huge drool box. He’d soak the front of his shirts within a couple hours. Drool bibs came in handy for catchy all the drool. These also come in handy in you have a baby that spits up often.
Socks
Everyone needs socks. I’d get extra baby socks because trust me you’ll find them everyone and its never the match the to now you found before.
Bedroom
Bedside Bassinet
I liked having a bedside bassinet. I used it for the first 4-6 months and it was great.
Large Lounge Chair
This is something I did not have, but desperately wish I had. I had a normal sized reclining chair, but I’ve seen this oversized recliners and wished so bad I had one. They look extremely cozy. This is something I will definitely be purchasing for my next baby.
Baby Monitor
I love my Owlet Dream Duo. It comes with a sock monitor and a video monitor all accessible through your phone. The two monitors help keep your baby safe by seeing them, using two-way sound, measuring the temperature and humidity in the bedroom, and keeping track of your baby’s vitals, like heart rate and oxygen. It’s also a great way to see how well your baby slept and when they might need to go to sleep again. It is also easy to pack and bring with you when traveling.
Sound Machine
I use the Hatch Sound Machine for my son and love it. There are many soothing sounds and colors to choose from. You can control the machine by itself or through the app on your phone. There are many different sounds and colors to choose from and many customizable features.
DockATot
I loved my DockATot. It is a comfy and safe spot for their baby to sleep and relax for short periods while being supervised. It was also the perfect baby photo prop. A great dupe brand is the Snuggle Me Organic Lounger.
Humidifier
I have always slept with a humidifier and benefitted from it. I knew my baby needed one as well. A humidifier helps babies by keeping the air moist, easing stuffy noses, preventing chapped skin, and promoting better sleep. It can also reduce the spread of germs. Just remember to clean it and check the humidity level!
Essential Oil Diffuser
I have lived off essential oils for years and still swear by them. Diffusing essential oils can help create a calm environment and help with sleep and sicknesses. Be sure to source your essential oils from a good place to be sure you’re getting the best out of them.
Diapering
Non-toxic Diapers
Finding a clean diaper for my baby was important because he had sensitive skin. For a while we used Noras Nursery Cloth Diapers. For disposable diapers I chose Kudos. I loved Kudos because they’re made of natural cotton and not plastic a majority of the diapers on the market. A close second was Joonya Diapers.
Non-toxic Wipes
Having a baby, and myself, with sensitive skin it was important to find a good, non-toxic wipe. I considered reusable, cloth wipes, but ultimately decided against it. I loved and still love the brand Joonya.
Non-toxic Diaper Rash Cream
My top Butt Creams are: LemonGrass Healing Elements Balm, Breastmilk, Colloidal Silver, 100% Pure Grass-fed Tallow, and Pipette.
Changing Table and Pad
Personally I used my changing pad quite regularly, but not everyone does. I did not get a regular changing table, I just used my dresser and designated the top drawer to all things changing station.
Diaper Caddy
A diaper caddy came in handy when I first had my son. I would carry it room to room with us when needed. I kept it stocked at all times with all of our essentials.
Diaper Bag
A diaper bag is essential when you have a baby. Check out my post What to Keep in Your Diaper Bag!
Bath
Sink Bath
My son had his first bath at 7 weeks old and the Frida Baby Sink Bath was super convenient. The Frida Baby Sink Bath is super soft and cushioned and helps keep your baby secured and safe from slipping.
Baby Bath
A Baby Bath makes bath time easy by providing a comfy, safe spot for babies. Its helps keep little ones secure, so parents can relax during the process.
Non-toxic Baby Wash
My go to for my baby is the Pipette brand. It’s a gentle, fragrance-free body wash with no sensitizing ingredients.
Non-toxic Baby Lotion
My son use to get eczema when he was younger and has sensitive skin. The Pipette lotion and Earthley Soothing Skin Balm are perfect options.
Washcloth
I loved these soft muslin babies washcloths and these Honest Baby Terry washcloths. Both are super soft and gentle on baby’s skin.
Hooded Baby Towels
I loved these soft muslin babies hooded towels and these Honest Baby hooded towel. Both are super soft and gentle on baby’s skin.
Feeding
Burp Cloth
No matter how you choose to feed your baby, burp cloth are a must for me. I loved these Muslin Burp Cloths from Amazon.
Bottles
My baby never drank from a bottle, so I m unable to give a brand that I liked the most. If I had to choose now what kind of bottle I would choose a glass bottle over plastic or silicone.
Bottle Cleaning Supplies
Again, I never needing these supplies, but if you have to use a bottle for you baby then the proper bottle cleaning supplies is important.
Breast-feeding essentials
Check out my breast-feeding must haves page to see what I recommend for breastfeeding.
Bottle Warmer
A good bottle warmer is important for your baby if you’re bottle feeding. Unfortunately I do not have a certain one I recommend.
Health
Thermometer
A thermometer is an essential to have on hand if your baby becomes sick, and you need to keep track of their temperature. Personally I use a touch-less forehead kind and love it.
Infant Nail Clippers
Personally I used the generic safety 1st baby nail clippers. I would also consider trying the Electric Nail Trimmer.
Nose Sucker
I used the generic Hospital Style Bulb Nose Sucker, but have heard great things about the Fridaybaby NoseFrida Snot Sucker.
Cradle Cap Brush
Luckily my baby did not get terrible cradle cap, but I’ve seen videos of parents using this same FridaBaby 3-Set Cradle Cap Kit on their babies with severe cradle cap. It works great.
Pacis and Paci Holders
My baby would never take a Paci, so unfortunately, I don’t have a good brand to recommend. But I do recommend getting Paci holders and clips for them.
Gear
Infant car seat
I had the Chicco Bravo 3-in-1. It came with a stroller, rear facing carseat carrier, and the carseat base. This carseat is lightweight and easy to carry.
Stroller
I had the Chicco Bravo 3-in-1. It came with a stroller, rear facing carseat carrier, and the carseat base. The stroller is super easy to fold up and down. The basket underneath is large and spacious for everything you need. It is also lightweight, so its easy to lift in and out of the car.
Baby Wear Carrier
My top favorite baby wraps were:
Swing
I liked the Graco 2-in-1 Swing and Bouncer seat a lot. I fortunately found this swing at a yard sale for just $20! I liked that the seat was removable from the swing and able to be used a bouncer.
Bouncer
Aside from the swing bouncer, my favorite bouncer I had for my son was the BabyBjorn Bouncer. He also loved this bouncer.
Playtime
Play Mat
A play mat is great for keeping babies entertained. I was about to get the Fisher-Price Play Mat with Piano second hand for just a few bucks. I loved this mat for my son and he also enjoyed it.
Teething Toys
Teething toys are essential for babies! A few of my baby’s favorites were the: Silicone Rudder on a Wooden Ring, Wrist Hand Teether, FridaBaby Frozen Teethers, and anything with ribbed silicone.
Board Books
Board books are great for babies. My son loved looking at the pictures and listening to the story. He especially enjoyed the touch and feel books.
Toy Organizer
Personally, I do like like having all of my babies toys out at once. I feel like having all of the toys on a rotation has been super beneficial. For the toys we have out I use a 4 cube bookshelf and put one toy or activity in each cub. I change out the toys every couple of weeks.
Activity Table
I loved the Fisher-Price 2-in-1 Activity center. We used it as a bouncer for a while then one my son grew older, we used it at an activity table.
Portable Pack and Play
This is something I did not have or need, but if you have older kids and go out a lot then I feel like a portable pack and play could be beneficial.
Thank you for reading. I hope that this post help new parents, or even second time parents in getting an idea of what’s needed for their baby.
